and on earth . . . peace

Luke 2:8-14​

 
We read of peace in God’s good Word,
But live among the gun and sword.
We hear about the Lamb of God,
And yet the way of war we trod.
The Prince of Peace, He is the One,
Who grants true peace, God’s only Son.
 
We carry burdens from the past,
We pray that they’d be gone at last.
But still they grieve us, still bring pain,
Despite our efforts, there’s no gain.
He is the Prince, the Prince of Peace.
He causes all our pain to cease.
 
We plead for rescue from the day
When lives are lost and war holds sway.
We fight against our pride and greed
And struggle to fulfill our need.
He is the Prince, the Prince of Peace.
He causes all our wars to cease.
 
We cry for peace, within, without.
We seek to love that conquers doubt.
True peace, however, can’t be found
While our own efforts still abound.
The Prince of Peace, He is the One,
Who grants true peace, God’s only Son.
